Tillie Peterson

Funeral services were conducted for Miss Tillie Peterson Sunday 8 February 1959 in the Arthur Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Mrs. O. Olson was the organist, and Mrs Leone Johnson was the soloist. She sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Children of the Heavenly Father." Interment was at the Hayes Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were Oscar Olson, Ernest Olson, Donald Bergman, Joe Samuelson, Art Palm, and Bill Wonnell.

Miss Mathilda (Tillie) Peterson was born in Istrum, Vastergotland, Sweden, on 4 January 1887, the youngest daughter of Peter and Johanna Lilja. She came to America at the age of 20 and made her residence with her aunt and uncle August Linquist, in Ida County, on 8 May 1907. She was baptized X November 1912 following her profession of faith during meetings conducted by Rev. V. E. Hedberg, and joined the Arthur Baptist Church where she remained as a member till the time of her death.

She did housework in the area until 1918 when she became housekeeper for William and Albert Linquist. After Williams marriage she continued as Alberts housekeeper until his death in April 1957. In October of that year she went to the Bessie Wink home in Ida Grove. There weeks later she suffered a slight stroke and fell and broke her hip. After returning from the hospital, she was very capably caared for by Mrs. Wink until the time of her death 4 February 1959. She was 72 years and 1 month of age at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, John and xxxxx and her sister, Amanda Johnson of Sweden. She is survived by two nephews, Erick Johnson of Odebolt and Sidney Peterson of West Side, one cousin, Mrs. Elof Carlson, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Kate Peterson of Arthur and Mrs. Agnes Peterson of Sweden. Other relatives include Ellen and Eleanor Linquist and Mrs. Cxxx Hanson.
