Funeral Services Tuesday for Esther Alice Segerstrom (Mrs. Johnson) at Baptist Church
Mrs. Elmer E. Johnson, native of Hayes township in Ida County passed away Sunday, 15 Jan 1939 at 2:30 a.m. after a long illness at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 16 days. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home at 1:30 p.m. and at the Arthur Baptist church at 2 p.m. At the home, Mr. and Mrs. Art Lindberg sang, "Near to the Heart of God." The church services were conducted by Rev. A. W. Erickson, pastor. Minnie and Evelyn Johnson sang, "Does Jesus Care" and "My Savior first of All" and Dennis Lindberg sang "Haven of Rest."
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Adelle, Mrs. Delbert Swanson and Vicky Lou and son-in-law, Delbert Swanson, three brothers, Axel G. Segerstrom of Strom Lake, Charles and Will Segerstrom of Arthur, one sister, Mrs. Frank Heitman of Hayes township; two niece and three nephews and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Esther Alice Segerstrom Johnson was born in Hayes township on April 20, 1887 and received her education in the Ida county rural schools. She was converted to God on 7 Feb 1906 and was received by baptism into fellowship of the Arthur Baptist church on 21 june 1906. She has been an active member of its various organizations always willing to serve in whatever capacity she could. She was the youngest daughter of mr. and Mrs. Gust Segerstrom who preceded her in death several years ago. She was untied in marriage to Elmer L. Johnson on 16 Feb 1915. To this union were born two daughters.
Her passing has taken from our community a kind neighbor and friend from the church one who has truly loved the Lord. And from the home a faithful wife and loving mother. She loved her family and lived for her home. Her many deeds of kindness and love are a happy memory of her devoted life. lHer place is vacant. In her last illness she exhibited wonderful patience in suffering and pain, but she was resigned to the Lords way with her, and she was ready when the call came. The pall bearers were Arthur Palm, Seth Johnson, Joe Ssamuelson, Earl Bilsten, Arthur Lindberg and Arvid Gustafson. She was laid to rest in the Hayes township cemetery.
Relatives and friends from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Axel Segerstrom of Storm Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Trulock and mr. and mrs. james kinney of Sioux City, Mrs. Minnie Smith of Elk Point, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Dolk, Omaha, Mrs. Christina Swanson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Youngberg of Albert City, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rydberg of Schaller, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Carlberg of Galva, Mrs. Minnie Forney and Mrs. Albert McKay of Ida Grove, Lois Schrader of Battle Creek.
