Obituary of Mrs. Andrew Carlson, Who Died April 19, 1957

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, 23 April 1957 at the Arthur Baptist church for Mrs. Andrew Carlson with Pastor David C. Brown officiating. Music was provided by Dennis Lindberg, who sang "Within The Gates" and "Near To The Heart Of God". Mrs. Oscar Olson was the organist. Pallbearers were Seth Johnson, Arthur Palm, Ernest Olson, Frank Lindquist, Myron Segerstrom and Joe Samuelson. Burial was in the Odebolt cemetery.

Maria Alina Carlson was born 26 Nov 1887 in Namphes Narpes, Finland, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Wilhelm Sjorlund. She moved to this county in 1904 and settled in Michigan. On May 10, 1917 she was married to Andrew Gust Carlson in Chicago, Illinois. To this marriage three children, Clarence, William, and Mildred were born.

In 1919 the Carlson family moved to Iowa and lived in the Odebolt-Arthur area until 1952. In December of 1951, Mrs. Carlson suffered a stroke, from which she never fully recovered. Since 1952 she had made her home with her children.

She was baptized in Ironwood, Michigan on June 25, 1905 and joined the Arthur Baptist Church, of which she remained a faithful member, when the family moved to this area.

She was taken ill in December 1956 and failed steadily until the time of her death on April 19, 1957 in Sunyvale, California. She passed away from a carcinoma. She was 69 years, 4 months and 24 days old at the time of her death.

Mrs. Carlson was preceded in death by her husband on January 9, 1943 and is survived by her three children, Mildred of Waterloo, Iowa, Clarence of Kirkhoven, Minnesota and William of Sunnyvale, California by three grandchildren and by one sister and other relatives in Finland.
