Obituary of Herbert Tunberg
Herbert Dewey Tunberg was born on 27 March 1898 in Blaine Township, Ida County, Iowa, the son of Swan and Hilma Tunberg. He passed from this life at 3:45 a.m. 29 October 1969 at the Horn Memorial hospital, Ida Grove, Iowa at the age of 71 years and 7 months.
He received his elementary education in the Blaine No. 8 rural school and attended the Denison Normal college at denison, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Alveda larson of Odebolt, Iowa on 29 June 1921. They made their home continually for 48 years on the farm where he was born.
Mr. Tunberg was converted and baptized in his early youth and his deep and abiding faith in Christ sustained him throughout life. He was a faithful and active member of the church. He served as chairman of the church for over 20 years and was also active in other capacities. These duties he considered an integral part of his life and they took first place.
He is survived by his wife Albeda, four childrren, Richard K. Tunberg, Rockford, Illinois, Shirley Rasmusen, Phoenix, Arizona, Jane I. Erickson, Phoenix, Arizona and Allen C Tunberg, Singapore where he is serving as a missionary under the Evangelical Free church of America. Also, surviving is one brother, Henry W. Tunberg of Ida Grove and thirteen grandchildren.
His life of devotion to Jesus Christ was an inspiration to the family , the community, and to the church.
Memorial Services were conducted from the Evangelical Free church of Arthur on Saturday, 1 Nov 1969 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Lundberg officiating. Mr. Wayne Lindskoog sang, "Over the Sunset Mountains" and "The Presence of God". Miss Helen McGee was the organist. The pall berers were James Linman, Paul Lindgren, Walter Hammerstrom, LuVerne Rydburgl, Burnelle Linman and Carl Hedum.
Burial was in the Hayes township cemetery.
