OBITUARY REV. NELS WICKSELL (4 Feb 1941), Sloan, Iowa
We are confident the following short sketch of the life of the
late Rev. Nels Wicksell, former pastor of the Evangelical Free
Mission church here, will be of interest to many of our readers:
Rev. Wicksell, who passed away at his home near Sloan, Iowa, 4
Feb 1941, after an extended illness was born in Varmland, Sweden
7 may 1867; immigrated to America as a young man. He attended
the Chicago Theological Seminary and graduated from that institution
in 1899, and was ordained into the ministry in the Swedish Free
Mission church at Ludington, Michigan the same year. His pastorates
have included churches at Kiron, Iowa, St. Joseph, Mo, Marquette,
Nebr, Kerkhoven, Minn, and Sloan, Iowa. Retiring from the ministry
at Sloan, where he purchased a farm the family has since resided.
He was married at Kiron, to Miss Alice Lundberg December 17, 1903.
To this union were born nine children, whom all survive him, and
together with the wife and mother mourn his departure.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon following his death,
from the Swedish Covenant church near Sloan. Interment was made
in the Fairview Cemetery near Sloan.
Mrs. Wicksell was born and grew up into womanhood on the A. F.
Lundberg farm two miles northeast of Kiron, and has three sisters
residing in this locality, Mrs. J. P. Turin, Mrs. Carl Gustafson
and Mrs. E. E. Clauson.
