Services were Dec. 28, 1999 for Russell Lee Wood, 84, of Ida Grove at Church of God in Ida Grove. Dr. Herbert K. Johnson officiated with burial in Kiron Cemetery in Kiron under the direction of Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Mr. Wood died Dec. 25 at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.
Mr. Wood was born June 22, 1915, on a farm near Arthur, the son of Harry and Augusta (Johnson) Wood. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Arthur country schools. As a young man, he farmed and worked for different farmers. He married Eleanor Marie Bergin Sept. 15, 1943, in Kiron. The couple farmed in Hayes Township, Ida County. They retired from farming in 1990, but continued to make their home on the farm. He was a member of the Church of God where he served on the church council. He also was a school director, served on the Farm Bureau board and was a member of the 4-H committee.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Eugene and Mary Wood of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters and their husbands, Grace and Gerald Langholdt of Denison and Nancy and Robert Krueger of Battle Creek; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Marlene Riese of California; two sisters-in-law, LuElla and her husband, Bud Nepper, and Vera Iversen, all of Ida Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.
