Where was Jesse prior to his death? He does not appear as a head of household in Jackson County in census records from 1850 through 1870. His widow, Mary, appears in the 1870 census as a head of household in Jackson County, and in the 1880 census as the wife of Benjamin Armstrong in Mason County.

At Honey Creek Church which is now a museum or historical center we talked with a Mrs. Mills (Nellie) who said that she was Jesse's best friend when they were girls. They went sledding down the big hill in winter. She married and moved about 10 miles away and they never saw each other again.
