James Gay vs Jehu Bates - Bill for
division. On motion of C. Levy for
(p. 204) Complainant and by consent
of A. Blanding for Defendant,
ordered that James Bates be appointed
guardian ad litem for the said
Jehu Bates in the above case.
Bill and answer in this case read.
Ordered that it be referred to the
Commissioner to determine whether it
will be for the benefit of all
parties that a partition be ordered
agreeable to the Complainant's Bill,
and the Commissioner submitted the
following Report -
The Commissioner reports that he has
enquired into the matters referred
to him in the above case, and is of
the Opinion that it would be for the
mutual interests of the parties that
a division of the personal property
mentioned in the Bill be ordered.
Ordered that the same be confirmed
and that a division of the property
be immediately made and that Starke
Hunter, Henry (p. 205) Hunter,
Burwell Fort (?), Davis Collins and
James Sylvester, chosen by consent
of said parties, are hereby appointed
Commissioners for that purpose.

Kershaw County, SC, 1756-1979

genealogy begins with William Jones,
supposed immigrant from Wales, who
was in South Carolina by 1765 and
settled near the present town of
Kershaw. The three known children of
this William Jones and wife
Elizabeth King were William Jones,
Sarah (Jones) Lizenbea, and Samuel
Jones. This volume largely deals with
the descendants of this Samuel
Jones who was a Revolutionary
pensioner from Kershaw District. Brief
sketches of a number of allied
families are also included, such as
Baxter, Benton, Bowers, Bradford,
Cauthen, Craig, Culp, Draffin, Fee,
Fraser, Gardner, Gay, Grammer,
Gregory, Hill, Hilton, Hyatt, Kirkland,
Luck, Magill, Moore, Parker,
Rudasill, Stover, Truesdale, and Twitty.
