“Marriage, Death, and Legal Notices From Early Alabama Newspapers,

p. 583.  From “Southern Advocate”  Huntsville, AL.  Sept. 3, 1857.  Married

on the 27th instant near Bellafonte, Mr. A.A. Gay to Miss Delila Armbrester.

 

 

p. 78.  From “The Livingston Journal”  Livingston, AL.  Sumter Co.

Feb. 9, 1867.  Married on the 23rd at the residence of the brides’ father by

Rev. Geraldus Gay, Mr. George B. Gay, to Miss Sallie Hare all of this

county.

June 3, 1845.  Rev. John L. Gay married Anne Eliza Parke of Wadesboro in

SAMUEL GAY … a plantation or tract of Land Containing 148 Acres Situate

            being part of a tract of - Acres Situate as Supposed when run out to be

in Mecklenburgh County in the province of N. Carolina on the waters of

the S. fork of fishing Creek, Joining Benjamin Philip's Land … to James

Murphy's Corner with his line … to a White oak Lacey's Corner …

Originally Granted to Peter Johnston the 16th day of December 1769 by

his Excellency Gov'r Tryon … who Conveyed the above mentioned 148 Acres

of Land to the Mem'st the 25th of July 1770 but on a late resurvey of

the boundary line between N & S Carolina the above tract of Land falls

within this province in Craven County … (sworn) 2d of Sep'r 1772

(signed) Samuel (X) Gay (vol. 11, p. 390).

On the 15th inst., by J. C. Secrest, Esq.,Mr. Isaac M. Gay, to Miss

Nancy R. Bailey, all of this District.

SCMAR, Vol. XV, Fall 1987, No. 4, p.202

James Gay vs Jehu Bates - Bill for division. On motion of C. Levy for

(p. 204) Complainant and by consent of A. Blanding for Defendant,

ordered that James Bates be appointed guardian ad litem for the said

Jehu Bates in the above case.

Bill and answer in this case read. Ordered that it be referred to the

Commissioner to determine whether it will be for the benefit of all

parties that a partition be ordered agreeable to the Complainant's Bill,

and the Commissioner submitted the following Report -

The Commissioner reports that he has enquired into the matters referred

to him in the above case, and is of the Opinion that it would be for the

mutual interests of the parties that a division of the personal property

mentioned in the Bill be ordered.

Ordered that the same be confirmed and that a division of the property

be immediately made and that Starke Hunter, Henry (p. 205) Hunter,

Burwell Fort (?), Davis Collins and James Sylvester, chosen by consent

of said parties, are hereby appointed Commissioners for that purpose.

James Gibson and Martha his wife v. James Sylvester and James Gay Exors.

& Joseph Sylvester & Mary Sylvester divisees of Jos. Sylvester, dec'd. -

Petition for Partition. On motion of Messrs. Blanding and Prioleau and

with consent of James Sylvester, ordered that the said James be

appointed Guardian ad Litem of Joseph Sylvester and Mary Sylvester two

of the defendants who are infants. Ordered that a Writ of Partition do

issue directed to John Moore, William Moore, James Barnes, Thomas Polk

and Asa Dinkins.

genealogy begins with William Jones, supposed immigrant from Wales, who

was in South Carolina by 1765 and settled near the present town of

Kershaw. The three known children of this William Jones and wife

Elizabeth King were William Jones, Sarah (Jones) Lizenbea, and Samuel

Jones. This volume largely deals with the descendants of this Samuel

Jones who was a Revolutionary pensioner from Kershaw District. Brief

sketches of a number of allied families are also included, such as

Baxter, Benton, Bowers, Bradford, Cauthen, Craig, Culp, Draffin, Fee,

Fraser, Gardner, Gay, Grammer, Gregory, Hill, Hilton, Hyatt, Kirkland,

Luck, Magill, Moore, Parker, Rudasill, Stover, Truesdale, and Twitty.
