In 1865, William Gay left a last will and testament in the Columbia County, Ga., Courthouse, Probate Court. It was signed 22 Aug. 1863 and was registered 12 July 1865 in will Book J, 1852-1919 page 161. He gives to Benjamin F. Gay, $5 and no more. he gives to Nancy Ellen Anderson, $5 and no more. He names his wife, Martha Jane Gay and the following children to have the balance of his estate to share and share alike: Thomas H. Gay, and James J. Gay, John F. Gay, William J. Gay, Louisa Gay, Martha Jane Gay, Wesley Columbus Gay, and Lovet Bryant Gay. His witnesses were: Middleton Parish, William Radford, and Henry Radford.
