The Indian Journal began publication in 1876 and is still in publication. The first issue still in existence (as far as I know) is the Feb 15, 1894 issue. This is one of the earliest papers in Indian Territory and contains information from around Indian Territory - not just McIntosh County. Of all the newspapers I abstract/transcribe this is the hardest one to read. The type is tiny and most of the pages are very faded.
