Howard’s marriage to Mary is not mentioned in Marion Stedwell’s book, but it does appear in the 1940 census. It seems reasonable that the Howard Studwell appearing in the 1930 and 1940 censuses are the same man because 1) they are the only close match and 2) both are said to be employed by a lighting company. Given that Howard was unmarried in 1930 and Dorothea was 16 in 1940, I’ve assumed that Dorothea was Mary’s daughter by a previous marriage.
