On the 25th of September 1834, personally appeared before a Justice of the Peace,

David Marsh
, age 75, who states he was born 6th of October 1769, and at age l0, entered the service in Russell County, Virginia, as a Private Volunteer Indian Spy in 1779. He served 3 months under
Capt. Fugate
and
Lt. Richard Price.
States he entered the service about the first of October and ranged between the Clinch and Sandy Rivers. After serving 3 month tour was discharged by his Captain. After several months, he again volunteered for a 3 month tour, was under his same Capt. and was a guard at Fugate Fort a great part of the time. He served wholly against the Indians, as a Spy, and never fought against the British. Applicant has no written documentary evidence of his services. He has lived in a remote part of the County on the South Fork, near the Tennessee line in the mountains, only a little over 3 years, where he has some acquaintances, though be knows of no chance of getting the evidence of a clergyman, but that some of his acquaintances are

States that he was born and reared in Albemarle County, Virginia, and after the Revolutionary War, moved to Rutherford Co., North Carolina and then back to Clinch River, then to Sandy River, then to Greenville, S. C. and lived there about 6 years, then to Campbell Co., Tenn. and lived there many years, then to Wayne Co., Ky., where he now 1ives, then to McMinn Co., Tenn., then to Bledsoe Co., Tenn., then to White Co., Tenn., thence to where he now lives in Wayne Co., Ky. |

Nancy Reece
, age 80, states that she was intimately acquainted with David Marsh from Wayne Co., Ky., while young, being a cousin of hers. Is able to state within a year or two of his age and is certain that he is about age 70 and she recollects his serving in the Revolutionary War against the Indians on the frontiers of Virginia under
Capt. Fugate
and believes he served 2 years and that part of his service was in 1781, and that she has not seen him for many years. |
