Emma Vera Stribling was born August 8, 1890, at Pontotoc/Lafayette/Calhoun County, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Thomas Robert and Alice O. Davis Stribling.
Her grandfather was Josephus Favius Stribling who lived in Cherry Hill, Calhoun County, Mississippi.
Veras first marriage, in February 1910, was to Ben F. Smith, who was born February 1833/34 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. Veras only children were from this marriage. Ben died in the 1920s in Lafayette County, Mississippi.
Veras second husband was Rufus Hollinger of Mississippi.
After Rufus Hollingers death, Vera married her step-brother-in-law, Joe Claborn/Calhoun Sanlin. He died and was buried in Guinn Cemetery, Pontotoc County, Mississippi.
Vera went to live with her daughter, Ophelia Howard Martin, in Dancyville during the 1950s.
Her only living son, James Wilson Smith, lived in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, until his death in 1973.He is buried in Sandsprings Cemetery, Pontotoc County, Mississippi. Veras only great-grandsons live in Pontotoc County.
Vera Stribling Sanlin died August 23, 1978 and is buried in Dancyville United Methodist Cemetery, beside her daughter, Ophelia Howard Martin.
It should be noted Veras last husband, Joe Sanlin, spelled his name Sanlin, without the D. His mother, Victoria Cody Sandlin Smith spelled the name with the D.
J.W. Smith, Vera's grandson, recalls she stated, " She wished to be buried
beside her first husband, Ben Smith, in Mississippi."
For reasons unknown she was buried in Dancyville.
Veras lineage is traced back to England and Venice, Italy. The line is also connected to the Talliferro line.
