of the
Northwest Indiana Conference
of the
Methodist Episcopal Church
held at
Terre Haute, September 7, 1870

Brother Edwards was born in North Wales, June 10, 1810. He came with his parents to the United States in 1821, and settled in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1823 removed to Delaware, Ohio; in 1828, through the influence of a pious Mother, he was brought to Christ and happily converted, but was for a time undecided as to his Church relations, his Mother being a Presbyterian and his own feelings inclining him to be a Methodist: in 1829, under the labors of Rev. Russell Bigelow, he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church: in 1833 received his license to exhort, and in 1835 to preach. In 1836 he removed to Indiana, and in 1837 was admitted on trial in the Indiana Conference. In the division of Conferences he fell into the North Indiana, and subsequently into the North-west Indiana Conference:

At the close of 1862 he superannuated, in which relation he continued until his death. Though superannuated, brother Edwards was a willing worker to the extent of his ability, and his labors were, in many of the fields he occupied during his active ministry, greatly blessed in the conversion of many souls, who will rise up to call him blessed. His zeal was unflagging and his faith unfaltering to the last, and his energy yielded only to the encroachments of advancing years and the infirmities of age. At the time of his death he was supplying Garnett circuit, Kansas, whither he had gone to improve his temporal conditions. His death was hastened by a fall from his new house, by which his system received a great shock, besides breaking a leg near the ankle joint. He endured much pain until death put an end to his sufferings. April 29, 1870, in triumphant faith and hope of immortality. Brother Edwards was a conscientious man, rebuking sin wherever he went, a faithful Christian, always letting his light shine, and a scriptural preacher, rightly divining the word of truth.
