He was married to Elizabeth Cassaundra Elam (daughter of Samuel Elam and Elizabeth Ashmore) on 18 Apr 1843 in Clark Co., Illinois. Elizabeth Cassaundra Elam was born on 9 Jan 1822 in Butler Co., Kentucky. She died in 1913. Hezekiah James Emmet Balch and Elizabeth Cassaundra Elam had the following children:
