Here they are in a bit deeper water but still no more than 3 feet deep.  If they went out another 100 feet to the next gut the depth would probably reach 4 to 4 1/2 feet.  Texas Bays tend to be very shallow.  This large Nueces bay tends to be a bit deeper than most.  In its natural state it probably averages no more than 15 feet.  Here out from North Beach the dredged out ship chanel connecting the Corpus Christi port with the gulf at the north end of Mustang Island (Port Arransas) is probably less than a mile off shore.
