Ed Arnold made this photograph of the `8th century chappe; during Fiesta Week, 1908. The star decoration near the top of the facade serves as a date stamp because it was a Fiesta custom during this period to add this decoration. Also there appears something like a string of flowers outlining the top of the wall? In 1908 the Alamo was in danger of being wrecked to make way for a commercial building. It was then that the Daughters of the Texas Revolution mounted their successful campaign that saved the old structure. See the next pictures below to see the changes that came during the next decade
This picture was made during the WWI years. The site has been saved and the grounds are assuming the character that we know today. .Note also that trolley and automobiles are replacing horse drawn carriages.
