Daniel Hullinger 1808-1885
Daniel grew up in Clark Co. Ohio. Believe he had two marriages.
1m Elizabeth Henry. Most record her maiden name as Kenny but have
original marriage record entry. Very badly (or fancy) written but it is
Henry. She is the daughter of William Henry and Elizabeth Julia Johnson
(recorded in Clark Co Vital Statistics Vol. 10 p 138)
They married 06 June 1837 - Clark County [Ohio] Probate Marriage Record.
assume they were divorced but have not verified. Elizabeth Henry dates :
1820 - 1891
2nd marriage - Mrs. Ann Dunker or Ducker on 23 Dec 1838 in Clark Co Ohio,
same source as above.
OK the part that I think is interesting:
My sister-in-law and brother-in-law live in a very old house, think about
1840s. After they bought it some 15 years ago, we found a couple of
gravestones in the flower garden. Never really knew if the bodies were
buried near there but assume that they were and so did not dig around too
much. But also decided that we would find out someday who they were. One
name Nicklin, one name Hoffman.
On the 1860 Clark County Ohio census I found Mrs. Hoffman living with
family - looking like - she is the mother of Mrs. Nicklin. [My in-laws
verified that Nicklins previously owned their home.]
And right next door (or maybe across the street/road) on census was
Hullinger age 36 and his wife Lidia age 30 and their children: Mary age 9,
Wilson age 3 and Margaret age 1.
Down the road is a cemetery originally called Moorefield Methodist
Cemetery, AKA Moorefield Chapel Cemetery, AKA Mumper Cemetery. This is
located on Morris Road near (south of) Mumper Road, Moorefield Twp, Clark
County Ohio. Champaign County is very near.
The Clark County genealogy Society has an inventory of this cemetery.
in it were two of interest:
Infant Hullinger, infant daughter of D? and A Hullinger (who now appear to
Daniel and Ann Dunker/Ducker); died Mar 3 1843 11 days old.
Buried next to her: John Ducker d Nov 30 1837 - age 28 (or 29) years 4m
Haven't gotten his probate record but it sure looks like that was Ann's
husband. And she named the son born in 1831 - John.
I do not know if the property where Daniel and Lydia were living on at
was ever owned by his parents but will try to find out. Maybe his 1830
will give a clue. There isn't another old house still standing around now.
And evidently the church associated with the cemetery burned down (and
it the records) in the 1950s according to the township trustees.
Hope you enjoy this. I did even though they are not my lineage.
Helen, thank you for the postings on the Daniels. I really enjoyed
andthey were very, very helpful.
I had "The Daniels" mixed up and could not determine who had
ElizabethKenny. The probate record writing is not totally clear and I have seen her
recorded also as Henry. Looks like Kenny to me. Thought I would add this
little bit if anyone is interested.
In "Clark Co. [Ohio] Vital Statistics," Vol. 10 p 138
states that her
name isHenry, daughter of William Henry and Elizabeth Julia Johnson. Source of
thatinformation is Vernon David Thompson of PA who I assume is a descendant.
Havehis address if anyone needs. None of that verified by me.
Thank you for the wonderful article. I appreciate the effort to sent it to
us. I have many holes in your family line and this fills a great many of them.
If I have it right they descend from Christian Daniel Hullinger who died 22
Jul 1839 and is buried in Rector-Gard Cemetery on the Clark-Champaign Co. line
in Ohio. Is this yours? If so this cemetery is inventoried on line I think.
I have been meaning to take pictures of the stones as it is fairly close to
me. Ironically there was a Dr. Hullinger who remained in Springfield, Ohio of
this lineage also. His wife died several years ago. I think I have her
obituary somewhere if you want it.
