SPECIAL PLACE MAT
(have photocopies made of the originals)
or your own drawings
Light weight cardboard or heavy construction paper
Gather up family photos from past years,
these can be a history of your birth,
or special moments with Mom.
Take them to a place that makes color photocopies...
...like Office Depot, Staples, Kinkos,
or an office supply store.
Never use original photos in any craft project!
Or, draw pictures of why you love your mom.
Glue photos or pictures onto light cardboard
or construction paper in decorative fashion
the size of a place mat.
Cover this collage with clear contact paper
to seal the place mat. Be sure to date and sign it.
Plaster of Paris
Tin coffee can or large can
Wooden spoon for mixing
Mix 2 cups of plaster of Paris
with 1 1/4 cups of water in tin can.
Consistency should be like pea soup. This can
dry in 10-20 minutes so work fairly quickly.
Pour about one inch of plaster on paper plate.
Wait 2-3 minutes for plaster to set up.
Press your hand (or foot) gently into plaster,
but not to bottom.
Hold for 1 or 2 minutes and remove.
Let the imprint dry over night
then peel the paper plate off the next day.
You can paint with tempera paints if you wish.
Once completely dry scratch in your name,
date and occasion on the flat back side.
Then glue a picture hook to the back for hanging.
