Obituary of Susannah (Kollar) Van Buskirk

Mrs. Susan Van Buskirk.

Mrs. Susan Van Buskirk, pioneer resident, died of old age last evening. She was 86 years old and had lived in St. Joseph county 43 years. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Eckman, 2514 South Michigan street, and died there.

Seven children, two brothers and two sisters survive. The children are: Mrs. Angeline Jaquith, South Bend; Mrs. Eliza Lott, Mishawaka; Mrs. Catherine Slough, 249 East Sample street; Mrs. Joseph Eckman, 2514 South Michigan street; William Van Buskirk, South Bend, and S. F. Van Buskirk, Upola, Kan. The brothers are Josiah Keller, German township and Divid Koller, South Bend. The sisters are Sallie Watkins, Center township, and Mrs. B. Wertz, South Bend.

Mrs. Van Buskirk was the widow of Thomas Van Buskirk, also a pioneer. She came from the county from Ohio 56 years ago, locating in Penn township. She moved to South Bend 13 years alter, living in this city until she moved to the Eckman home, six years ago.

The funeral will be held from the Eckman home Wednesday. Burial will be in the city cemetery. ⁸³

Susannah married Thomas Van Buskirk, son of Jesse Van Buskirk and Veronica Frantz, on 5 Jan 1840 in Tuscarawas Co, OH.⁸³ (Thomas Van Buskirk was born on 14 Feb 1820 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania,⁸³ died on 25 Jan 1900 in South Bend, St Joseph Co, IN ⁸³ and was buried in South Bend City, South Bend, St Joseph Co, IN ⁸³.)
