Obituary
BOZEMAN, MT - From the heavens came our loving daughter, sister, and friend, Mary Hume on the 22nd of January 1952.
The second child of Mary Nadine (Higgins) and Robert Lee Hume of Gooding, Idaho. From Gooding to Pocatello and on to Blackfoot, Idaho, Mary had a lovely upbringing in the Rocky Mountains, enjoying everything about it. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1970 and spent a year at Idaho State University, before pursuing her dreams in California, where she attended Butte College in Orville, CA. for two years studying secretarial law. Turning her attention to archaeology, Mary became affiliated with Sonoma State University and worked in the Anthropology Dept. She worked in the lab weighing, counting, and numbering artifacts. She doubled as the department's secretary working endless long hours typing crucial environmental impact statements. She loved her work and so enjoyed the many hours on archaeological digs from San Francisco to the Oregon border, as well as the nights camped at pre-historic sites, deep in the hills, miles from civilization. Here she met her husband, artist Edward Alexander and were married back in Blackfoot on April 14, 1978. After 15 memorable years in California, she returned to her beloved Idaho to be near family and friends in 1993.
Soon her adventurous spirit carried her to Colorado, where in Denver she attended the Culinary Arts Institute and studied design and decoration of cakes and pastries. She became very accomplished decorating and designing wedding cakes working for a major grocer until she ran her own department and trained new students.
She felt blessed, and was happy earning a living with her art and sculpting skills, creating exquisite cakes and pastries. She loved to decorate cakes and was one of the best in the world!
Mary loved to travel and lived a great life enjoying archeology, anthropology and genealogy. She delighted in searching her roots and knowing her noble ancestors. She loved sharing her findings with family and friends. She so admired the art and culture of the Native Americans. She found great joy in music and had a passion for horses. Always a romantic, she had class and style. She loved to read, deeply interested in matters spiritual, religious or metaphysical, Mary always could stimulate the conversation.
After 10 wonderful years in Colorado, Mary came back up to the high country to be near family and friends again. This time to Bozeman, Montana. After a courageous struggle with a myriad of challenging health problems, at home, in the loving care of her mother, sister and friends, she passed on September 5, 2010.
