Isaac
Impson was
born around 1790 and was likely the
brother or son of Benjamin, probably a
Pennsylvania Impson who migrated to
Tennessee. The earliest mention found is
in Tennessee marriage records where it is
stated he married in 1815 in Wilson
County, Tenn.
The
name of his bride is unknown, but the
Folsom Family Genealogy, vol. 2, p. 816
states Isaac and Nancy are parents of
Caleb Impson who was the first of several
husbands of Malina Folsom. Descendants of
John Impson also believe Isaac was
John’s father.
In the book
"Enlisted Men, War of 1812"
transcribed and indexed by Byron and
Samuel Sistler, Nashville, TN 1992, is an
entry for Private Isaac Impson. He
apparently mustered under Col . Thomas
Williamson and Capt. Beverly Williams as a
Volunteer Mounted Gunmen. Also serving
were Josiah and Alford, who could be
Isaac’s brothers.
Veller Sumter,
states in "Tales of Atoka County
Heritage, " that Josiah Impson was
born on a 160 acre farm on Fannagusha
Creek, Homes County, Miss The date was
"about 1824, to Isaac Impson and a
mother whose name we do not have. He had
at least three brothers: William, born
about 1822, Morris and Louis. There may
have been other children."
Perhaps other
sons of Isaac were another Isaac , b.
1831, Miss. ; Benjamin , 1822, Miss.;
Caleb, birth date unknown; and John, b.
1828.
Hiram
Impson, talks about the Impsons who were
Choctaw Indians and came to the Indian
Territory from Mississippi over the
"Trail of Tears," in "Pittsburg
County Oklahoma People and Places,"
1977, Pittsburg Co. Historical and
Genealogical Society., p.208.
``The father of John
Impson was an Englishman by the name of
Isaac Impson. Isaac intermarried into the
Choctaw tribe in Mississippi. His son,
John, married Louisa Folsom, granddaughter
of Nathaniel Folsom, who married the
sister of the then tribal chief. Nathan
and two brothers intermarried into the
Choctaw tribe. Nathaniel was 8th
in line from John Folsom, who came from
Foulsham, England, to the Massachusetts
Colon in 1636,." Hiram states.
Isaac
was listed on the Armstrong Rolls, which
was the head count of Indians in
Mississippi who were to be removed to
Indian Territory (Oklahoma). In
"Choctaw and Chickasaw Early Census
Records," author Betty Wiltshire says
on page 33:
"Name of
Indian Owning Farms: Isaac Impson; Number
of Acres Cultivated: 14; Number of the
Family: 8, Males over 16 years: 1 males
and females under 10 years: (1white);
Locality of Farms, Fun na gush a Creek
(MS)
Could 8
family members be Isaac, Nancy, Josiah,
Morris, William, Lewis, Caleb and John?
Who is the white girl?
In the
1830 Mississippi Census, Isaac Impson is
listed in Yazoo Co., 1 in household, white
male, 20-40 years old. He was not listed
in 1810, 1820 or 1840 Mississippi census
Records are
scarce concerning Isaac, but he could have
been the Englishman who married a
Mississippi Choctaw woman Nancy and became
the patriarch of the Oklahoma Choctaw
Impsons.
