The History of the ROTH family thus far is the story of three brothers; John, Andreas, and Martin ROTH who emigrated from the village of Karbach in the Unterfranken region of northern Bavaria in 1854, near the town of Wurzburg. The ROTH's were strong Catholics and actively retained their faith in the New World. Departing the French Port of Havre on board the Ship MANCHESTER, they arrived in New Orleans on May 1. Continuing their journey up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, they arrived in Harrison County, Indiana, settling initially near the small community of Lanesville.  Eventually all three brothers would continue their journey, settling in Wisconsin near the city of La Crosse.  John and Eva ROTH established a farm in Holland Township in La Crosse County, which they maintained until after John's death in 1884. But it was in Indiana where the ROTH and OTT families were joined, when, in 1860, John ROTH's daughter Anna Maria married another recent immigrant, Ferdinand OTT.  When the other ROTH family members left Indiana, Anna remained behind to raise her family near the small town of Bradford in northeastern Harrison County.

NOTES: John and Eve (Eva) Roth were accompanied on their journey to America by their four oldest children, Caspar, Anna, John, and Joseph.  They initially settled on a farm about three miles southwest of Lanesville. In July 1861, John, Eva, and their children (except for Anna) left Indiana and moved to Holland Township in La Crosse Co., Wisconsin, near to where Andreas ROTH had moved about five years earlier.  Sources indicate that John farmed there until he died in 1884.

NOTE: Andreas's wife Maria was of the Bauer family (father Arnold Bauer)
who also accompanied the Roth's on the Manchester. Some of the Bauer

Indiana..Maria Eva, the first child of Andreas and Maria, lived only two weeks.
Andreas' young wife died a week earlier from the effects of childbirth, and is
buried with her daughter in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lanesville.
