Ted, the oldest, lives in the Denver area and works as a freelance computer programming consultant. He has given Jack and Carol their first grandson Connor, born in 1995. He is a budding soccer star and his grandpa's favorite fishing partner. Ted recently brought into the family his new bride Dawn and her two children, Alex and Sydney, giving Jack and Carol two new grandkids to spoil. Next is David Christopher ("Chris"), who lives in the Denver area. Chris is unmarried and works in the auto repair business. Dan is an engineer and technical planner for QWEST Communications, planning and designing telecommunications fiber networks. He and his lovely wife Melissa live in Aurora, Colorado, Melissa is also a QWEST Planner . They presented Jack and Carol with a grandson Dylan Michael, born on his Grandpa's birthday in 2006, and on June 5, 2009 a beautiful new granddaughter, Emily Joy. David (Smith) is a real estate broker living in Los Angeles.He is also a former professional beach volleyball player, and is still involved with coaching young players.Thus far he has escaped the clutches of available young ladies who disapprove of his bachelorhood status. Aaron (Smith) is currently working on his Doctorate Degree in Divinity from Marquette University. He and his wonderful wife Dawn are living nearby in Lakewood while Aaron is completing his studies and dissertation. Their dogs, Abby and Austin, firmly believe that they too are grandchildren, because "Papa Jack" spoils them so much. Mark (Smith), the youngest of the six, is finishing up his Degree in Mechanical Engineering . Mark lives in Castle Rock, a suburb of Denver. He is currently in the process of obtaining his FAA Flight Instructor license and plans to make his career in aviation. I would be remiss if I failed to mention Jessica Kleinschmidt, Jack's and Carol's "adopted" daughter, who came to live with them from a small town in southern Colorado while she was attending Rocky Mountain Lutheran High School in Thornton, a suburb of Denver. She is now attending Metro State College in Denver, studying Elementary Education. She has brought great joy and love into Jack's and Carol's lives, and is the daughter they never had. She is engaged to Jason Frederickson, and they plan to be married in 2011 when Jessica completes her education. Jack retired from the former U S WEST Communications (now QWEST) in July, 2000. Carol is an engineering project manager with QWEST, which allows Jack to spend a lot of time doing genealogy and building his website during the day when he has no adult supervision. Carol grew up primarily in the small town of Lusk, Wyoming, although she also spent parts of her childhood living in Denver, Oklahoma City, and Ogden, Utah. Carol was graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Education. Jack never grew up, but when he was about fifty years younger than he is now he lived in the Milwaukee area. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1963, and spent six years traveling around the world as an Air Force pilot before getting into the telephone business. Jack and Carol met while both were obtaining their MBA Degrees from the University of Northern Colorado. Besides genealogy, Jack's favorite pastimes include blogging, grassroots political activism, travel, fishing, watching football (AF Falcons, Denver Broncos, and Green Bay Packers, in that order), and working with the Association of U S WEST Retirees. He is also actively involved in the political blogosphere with his political website THE DRUM AND CANNON, and gets involved with election campaigns. When Carol isn't working to bring the value of QWEST stock back up to respectability, she can be found playing the organ or piano at any one of several local churches, or raising money for charitable contributions through her favorite church group,
