Wake County Will Book F or 6, pp. 116,106. S. TURNER, Cl.
NOTE: We are not aware of the ancestry of Thomas Hollingsworth of
Wake County, North Carolina. His son Henry was still living there in
1850, and his birthplace given as Virginia. From this, we must advance
the theory that Thomas may have been one of the men bearing the name,
to be found in early Patrick or Henry County, Virginia, records, some
of whom served in the American Revolution.
Many of the records of Buncombe Cunty have perished by fire.
In 1966 we were pleased to find that the deed books have evidently
been preserved complete from the beginning of the county. Buncombe
County was erected in 1791 from Burke and Rutherford Counties. Since
nearly all Burke County records have been lost, it is fortunate, indeed
that we have the following HOLLINGSWORTH records, because these people
lived in the section which was Burke prior to 1791.
(1) Book 1, page 73. ABRAHAM HOLLINGSWORTH, witness to Deed, Oct. 26,
1791, between JAMES DAVIDSON, Jr., of Burke County, to JAMES
DUNSMORE, of same place.
(2) Book 3, page 65. JACOB HOLLINSWORTH, "of Frankland" County, State
of Georgia, to JOHN WEBB, Buncombe County. Sum. £200. Parcel of
320 acres lying on Ivy Creek above WILLIAM WHITSON'S land, including
round hill bottom. Signed April 20, 1796. Witnesses: JOSEPH
HUGHEY, STEPHEN HAMLEN(?) Registered by JACOB HOLLINSWORTH
July 13, 1796.
