St. Luke's Protestant Episcopal Parish, with the Parish Church
situated at Church Hill, in Queen Anne's County, Maryland, was erect-
ed about 1728 out of the older "Chester" or St. Paul's, Queen Anne's
County. (Records of that parish are listed as missing, except Vestry
Minutes.) Very large numbers of Hollingsworths inhabited this area,
starting with John Hollingsworth (1639-1698) who came to Maryland in
1650 with the ill-fated William Eltonhead, Esq. (See HR Vol. 1, pp.
127-134.) John left three sons, John, Thomas and William Hollings-
worth, from whom sprang all of the persons or families set forth in
the following entries in St. Luke's Parish Register. (Copy, Maryland
Historical Society, Baltimore.) Branches of this family went to Ashe
County, North Carolina, Clay County, Kentucky, Campbell County, Tenn-
essee, and perhaps to Patrick and Henry Counties, Virginia.
