BARBADOS
-Continued-
1762. (Will is damaged; several parts missing, signified here
by three asterisks, thus: *** where gap appears.) Weak in body
but of sound mind & memory. Daugher *** HOLLINGSWORTH £7. with
interest paid to her May 1, 1741. Son JOHN HOLLINGSWORTH, half
of real estate and dwelling, and he to pay above legacy. Other
three children ELIZABETH, WILLIAM & MARY HOLLINGSWORTH; other half
of his real and personal estate. Executors: *** Signed JOHN
HOLLINGSWORTH. Wits: THOMAS HOLLINGSWORTH, EDWARD COZIER.
Thus we conclude Report No. One on "Barbodos Hollingsworths." The
records next to be searched naturally are deeds after 1720, and the
series of St. Lucy's Parish Registers. Don't tell anybody, but did you
notice that not one of the Christian names above is 'out of place' in
the County Wexford, Ireland family? William, Thomas, John, Sarah,
Mary, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Martha, Ann - and James (the most rare among
the Wexfords) are all there and 'in place.' The old "Spottiswoode
Fortune" story which says that the first Irish Hollingsworth came
there 'from America' always pops into our brain when we find a crop of
names like these. Though most of this family seem to have stayed in
the island, one of them may have gone to Ireland. They all seem to
start with the John whose will is presented first. The whole family
seems to have remained together at least to 1741 at the time of the
decease of James Hollingsworth, the original testator's (John) son.
But enough of such speculations.

Note that the arms are the same as those of the Mottram-in-Long-
dendale family arms, but no crest is depicted. Ormerod's History of
Chester (1882) Vol 3 p. 370 says that the junior branch of Hollingworth
(at the Nether or Old Hall) bore the crest, while the original or sen-
ior branch bore none.
