Even in Westminster Abbey!
The family of HOLLINGWORTH is represented among those buried,
kings, knights, sages and saints, amid the eight hundred year old
cloisters of London's Abbey of Westminster. We her publish a letter
which verified this information:
The Library & Miniment Room
Westminster Abbey
London S.W.I.
April 21st 1966
Dear Sir,
In reply to your letter the only member of the Hollingsworth
or Hollingworth family who is buried in the Abbey is Mrs. ELIZABETH
HOLLINGWORTH, who died on June 20th 1785 and was buried on June 28th
in the East Cloister.
There used to be a tablet to her in the East Cloister but
it was taken down as unsafe some years ago. On it she was described
as the "relict of William Hollingworth of Barton Mere, Co. Suffolk,
Esquire."
Col. J. L. Chester, who edited the Abbey Registers for the
Harleian Society (Vol X) adds a note: "Her will, as Elizabeth Holl-
ingworth, of Princes Court, Westminster, widow, dated 9 Mch., 1785,
was proved 7 July following, by her son-in-law Thomas Quale, husband
of her daughter Elizabeth. She bequeathed £200 to her sister Mary
Evans, and £100 to her husband Rev. James Evans: £50 each to Lt. John
Quale and her god-daughter Elizabeth Quale, son and daughter of John
Quale, Esq.: £100 to her grandson William Hollingworth Quale, when of
age, and the residue of her estate to her said daughter Elizabeth
Quale."
I am afraid that this is all the information which I can
give you, but I hope that it may enable you to identify this particul-
ar member of the family.
Yours faithfully,
(L. E. Tanner, Librarian.)
