This family is given in J. A. Stewart's Descendants of Valentine
Hollingsworth, Sr., (1925) on page 110. The above is a printer's
error, of course, for Jeptha Y. Hollingsworth. This probably is the
Jeptha Hollingsworth5, of Stewart, p. 111, born Apr 1791, in Greenville
District, South Carolina. He was, if this is the man, son of
Jeptha4 and second wife Nancy (Ann) Gordon Hollingsworth. Nancy or
Ann was the sister of Col. Samuel Gordon. The elder Jeptha had fought,
to quote Stewart, in Gordon's regiment during the Revolution. The
above Samuel Gordon is probablv the same old vet back for another
duty. But we have not done research for verification. The initial Y
in this Jeptha's name is significant. Also, Ruth5 Hollingsworth,
sister of the Jeptha born in 1791, married Samuel Talkington, which is
why we have given those names all caps.
Bennet, Noah, Ensign, 18th regiment, comm. Apr 1, 1812. Gilbreath, William, Captain, ditto, " " " Halfacre, Jacob, Ensign, 18th regiment, " " " Holonsworth, Abraham, Captain, ditto, " " " Sutton, John, Lieutenant, 18th regiment " " "This Abraham Holonsworth is probably the same man who went early to Illinois and died in Schuyler County in 1837, son, as we now suppose of Samuel Hollingsworth (Samuel3 ,Samuel2, Valentinel, Henry). This Abraham came from Buncombe Co., North Carolina. His sister Ruth married William Fulbright. Abraham was also a captain of a company during the shortlived Black Hawk War of 1832 in Illinois, and was mustering his men from Beardstown, with another captain, another Abraham, one destined to ride into history......Abraham Lincoln.
