U.S. Census of 1870 - GEORGIA REVISITED - THOSE WE MISSED
-Part One-

We invite you to see our September, 1976 issue, pp. 52-60 which gave a
hint that maybe some names would be missed. The research was carried out
on the old series T-8, filmed about 1937 on the primitive camera equipment
of the Bureau of the Census and later marketed by the National Archives.
Now, we have recently obtained the Precision Indexing publication of the
complete index to Georgia 1870, which is astounding in its good quality.
It gives the names of heads of households and others in the household,
as well as ages and birthplaces, pages and film rolls and other date, us-
ing the 1965 publication on M-593. Your editor was shocked at what he had
missed! These articles will show it. In fact, we missed 131 Hollingsworth
names. Shameful! The worst - we hope! On a re-examination of the o1d T-8s
we had used nearly 20 years ago, the only pacification we could gain was
that in most cases the names were either just not readable, or so poorly
reproduced that the reader would in all likelihood miss them unless he had
knowledge they were there in advance and had much more time than we have.
In some cases corrections on what we did find are given. Note that in New-
ton County, (in Part Two - December 1991 issue) we found family 106 Georqe
W. Hollingsworth, and published it, but could not see family 105, next a-
bove, Aaron Hollingsworth! Poor, poor stuff.
