From the ages I am inclined to think John Long's wife, Martha and Sarah Cummings were brother & sister. Martha Cummings McAtlin may have been named for her Aunt Martha Long.
From the 1880 census, it appears that the photo above may be the family of William Cummings, 47, b. 1833 in Ohio, wife Sarah (Long ?),who had 5 girls and 2 boys. There is a John Long, 58, b. Pa; wife Martha 63, b. Pa; John son 23, b. OH; Hannah dau. 21, b. Ohio. Cousins of Louisa Jarrard and family of Martha Cummings. This William supposedly is the son of Amos Cummings who would have been a brother of Abiel L. This would make these children first cousins of Martha Cummings that married James McAtlin. From the clothing they are wearing, is it feasible that this photo was taken around 1890? The 7 year old, George M. would then be 17.

1. JAMES1 MCATLIN was born January 01, 1841, and died 1905 in Bur. Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington Co., Iowa. He married (1) MARTHA JANE CUMMINGS, daughter of ABIEL CUMMINGS and SUSANNA MCDOWELL. She was born Abt. 1841 in Illinois, and died May 27, 1870 in Washington Co., Iowa. He married (2) LOUISA ANN JARRARD March 18, 1873 in Washington County, Iowa, daughter of GEORGE JARRARD and MARY CUMMINGS. She was born 1844 in St. Clair County, Illinois, and died 1929 in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington Co., Iowa.
