Generation No. 1

1. JOSEPH2PERKINS (JOHN1) He married KATHERINE  DRISKELL September 07, 1799 in Shelby County, Kentucky.

In the Henry Co., Ky 1810 census, on page 353 is Henry Perkins, one male between 16-25, younger than the other men we found, and with one son under 5. )  On page 367, are three Perkins men, John, Joseph, and James, all between 26-44 and listed on the same page.  John had three males between 10-15. Joseph and James both had males under 5 in their households.
(Perkins, Jas. 2 - - 1 - - - 1 - - - 4 Perkins, Joseph 3 - - 1 - 2 - - 1 - - - 7 ... 4 1 - - - 1 1 - 9 17 Perkins, Jno. 2 3 - 1 - 3 - - 1)

Joseph Perkins and Katherine Driskell had 13 children, namely, John, Wilson, Wiliam, Jane, Mary, Nancy, Alexander, Sarah Ann, Lucinda, Joseph, Catherine, Joseph Samuel, James Henry.  We are descended John b. 30 Mar 1801.

Parentage is defined in the will of John Perkins, Sr. filed on page 188, Henry Co. will book, in February 1809 before the 1810 census so there is yet an older John Perkins in the area and helps us sort out the Perkins men we find in Henry Co., Ky. (My thanks to Virginia Tolman and the Henry Co, Ky GenWeb Coordinator for providing this info.

Shelby Co., Ky marriage records (Henry Co. was part of Shelby Co. until 1798):

Joseph  Perkins married Caty Driskell 7 Sept 1799
Samuel Perkins married Polly Blake 29 December 1797

William Perkins married Jane Glen 24 Jan 1793
Jane Perkins married James McCullough 24 Jan 1793 (same day as William)

In 1790 census, Elisha Perkins of Bourbon Co., Ky is the only Perkins found.  Some gedcoms show Henry Perkins as Joseph Perkin's father but this is incorrect.  By 1820, James is gone and only John and Joseph remain. In 1830, we find some of the next generation appearing:

PERKINS, J.L.             311
PERKINS, JNO.          311
PERKINS, LEWIS       311
PERKINS, WM.           311

During those first three census records for Kentucky, the only Driskell found is David Driskill.  Some claim the name was Duskin, but I have found no evidence of that and the marriage records says Driskell.
