Henry A. Bastin, Widow's Claim for Pension

WIDOW'S CLAIM FOR PENSION.

ON THIS 17th day of February 1874, personally appeared before me, a Clerk of a Court of Record in and for the County and State aforesaid, Elizabeth ["Bastain" corrected to "Bastin"] a resident of ["Morgan" lined out] in the County of Morgan and State of Indiana aged 37 years, who being duly sworn, makes the following declaration, in order to obtain the Pension provided by the Act of Congress approved July 14, 1862.

That she is the widow of Henry A Bastain who was a Private in Company H commanded by Capt. Jas E Burton in the 33rd Regiment of Indiana volenteers in the War of 1861; that her maiden name was Elizabeth McDaniel and that she was married to said Henry A ["Bastain" corrected to "Bastin"] on or about the 12th day of November 1854, at Baker Township in the County of Morgan and State of Indiana by Lewis Lemons and that she knows of no record evidence of said marriage.

SHE FURTHER DECLARES that said Henry A ["Bastain" corrected to "Bastin"] her husband, died ["in" lined out] [carat insert] Since being discharged from [end insert] the service of the United States as aforesaid at Baker Township Morgan County in the State of Indiana on or about the 6th day of August 1873 of Consumption.

She also declares that she has remained a widow ever since the death of said Henry A Bastin and that she has not in any manner been engaged in, or aided or abetted, the rebellion in the United States; and she hereby appoints C. W. Bennett of Washington DC as her lawful Attorney, with power of substitution, and authorizes him to present and prosecute this claim, and to receive her pension certificates. The following are the names & dates of birth and places of residence of all the children of her deceased husband who were under sixteen years of age at the time of his death[:]

ALSO PERSONALLY APPEARED before me, Francis M Carroll and [blank] residents of Morgan County, and State of Indiana to me well known as credible persons, who being duly sworn, declare, that they were present and saw Elizabeth Bastin sign her name to the foregoing declaration, and that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said applicant, and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be, and know that said deceased recognized said applicant as his lawful wife, and that she was so recognized by the community in which they resided; and that they have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim.
