John Heppener aged Sixty five years being duly sworn with that he is a resident citizen of the United States to wit of the town of Henderson in the county and State aforesaid and that he is by reason of his reduced circumstances in life in need of assistance from his country for support __
That he enlisted in the continental army of the United States in March fourth 1776 for the period of one year and served against the common enemy on the continental establishment in a company commanded by Captain Anthony Sharp in Colonel Datons Regiment of the New Jersey line[.] He served as aforesaid untill March 1777. He then amediately enlisted again in the same company and same regiment aforesaid for three years[.] the said company was then commanded by Samuel Flanagan in the regiment aforesaid still commanded by Colonel Daton[.] He served as aforesaid untill November 1777[.] Joseph Anderson Capt then took the command of said company and under him in said company [carat insert] he served [end insert] untill May 1783 when he was discharged at Elizabethtown __ He has lost his

I hereby relinquish all claim to any pension Granted to me prior to the Act of the 18th March 1818

I Benjamin Skinner Clerk of the County of Jefferson and Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas in and for said county Do hereby Certify that Elijah Field Junior before whom the above affidavit was taken was on the 22d day of April 1818 one of the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for said County of Jefferson duly Commissioned and sworn. And further that I am acquainted with the hand writing of the said Judge and verily believe that the signature of Elijah Field Junior subscribed to the said affidavit is the proper hand writing of the said Elijah Field Jr. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court this 3d day of January 1820.

I Elijah Field Jr. Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the county of Jefferson aforesaid Do Certify that it Appears to my Satisfaction that the Said John Happerner Did Serve in the Revolutionary War as Stated in the preceding Declaration Against the Common enemy and I now Transmit the proceedings and Testimony Taken and had before me to the Secretary For the Departmet of War persuant To the Directive of the Act of Congress of March the 18th 1818 ---

I certify that I am personally acquainted with the applicant John Harpperner & I have been for a number years past & believe him to be a man in indigent & necesitous circulstances & absolutely requires the relief granted to revolutionary pensioners. furthermore the applicant says that he cannot procure any other testimony except his own to confirm his claim as he knows of at present ---
as for his Character it is unquestionably good & so considered by his acquaintances & I believe that there ought to be full confidence placd in his testimony he being so unfortunate as not to be able to procure further testimony.

STATE OF NEW YORK,
JEFFERSON COUNTY, ss.}
On this Sixth day of July 1820 personally appeared in open court, being a court of record by a law of said state of the said county John Heppener aged Sixty Three years, resident in Henderson in said county, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War, as follows:
That he enlisted for one year in 1776 into Captain Anthony Shafts Company - Col. Daytons Regiment New Jersey troops - afterwards he enlisted under Capt. Flanaghan in said Regiment and served his Country [?]ing the war - or six years as a private - that he was in the battles of Short Hills in New Jersey & in the action on Staten Island under General Sullivan - when he was badly wounded being shot through the right shoulder & was in many other battles & skirmishes - his original declaration was made 22d day of April 1818 - the number of his Certificate is (17,376)
And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March, 1818; and that I have not since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it, as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled "An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States, in the Revolutionary War, passed on the 18th day of March, 1818; and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me; nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereunto annexed, and by me subscribed.
That I have a wife aged fifty years in infirm health - and have two children - John aged 14 years & my daughter Densey aged 12 years - neither of which can do any thing toward my support[.] By occupation I am a farmer. I am justly indebted in the sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars - to pay which I have relyed upon my pension & the indulgence of time from their Sown[?]
Sworn to and declared [blank] on the Sixth day of July 1820 before George Andruz Clerk

I Geo. Andruz Clerk of the county of Jefferson, do hereby certify that the foregoing oath and schedule thereto annexed, are truly copied from the record of said court; and I do further certify, that it is the opinion of the said court that the total amount in value of property exhibited in the aforesaid schedule, is one hundred & fifty dollars, and twenty five cents. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the said court, on this tenth day of July 1820.
