E-mail from Michael Hofemann:
John,
Hope you got a chance to digest the latest material sent vial post. I've recently made a connection to Gordon Dollinger (note the surname in the LOTTHOLZ and FUESS lines) who has done additional research of German publications and furthers the LOTTHOLZ line from the Ellmendingen Parush records.
Message 1:
Mike,
I am all over the net and honorable mention on several web pages that others have put up. Lottholz, "Auswanderung aus dem Baden und Breisgau" by Werner Hacker lists Margarete Lottholz, daughter of Martin of Ellmendingen, wants to marry Gabriel Drollinger and go to Pennsylvania. "Emigrants from Baden and Wuertemberg in the Eighteenth Century" volume 1 by Brigitte Burkett:
Jacob Itschner, swineherd in Ellmendingen, the son of Hans Jacob Itschner of Grafenhausen married on the 24 Jan 1744 the pregnant Magdalena, daughter of Martin Lottholz of Ellmendingen, children Maria Salome 26 11 1746, Catharina 2 9 1748, Jacob 24 1 1750, Christina 10 1751, Magdalena 12 1 1754 ab in Pens. Is this the line you are looking for? Martin Lottholz of Ellmendingen with wife and children wants to go to Pennsylvania. Since they are in bad circumstances, they are manumitted without charge 1742. No entry in Strassburger and Hincke Married on 12 Nov 1711 by decree were Hans Martin Lottholz, a weaver and the son of Hans Martin Lottholz of Altenbulach in Wuertemberg, Wildbad district and the pregnant Margaretha, daughter of Johann Fuess, attorney of Ellmendingen. Children recorded in Ellmendingen:
Anna Catharina 21 4 1712 mar Samuel Spiegel; Hans Michael 22 4 1714;
Hans Martin 5 1716; Maria 27 8 1718 mar Sebastian Hafner; Margaretha
16 3 1721 mar Gabriel Drollinger; Magdalena 5 12 1723 mar Hans Jacob
Itschner; Maria Barbara 16 5 1727 30 10 1734; Maria Christina 23 4
1730.
This is all I have the Lottholz family as it pertains to Amerika. Attached is a text file on the descendants of Gabriel and Margarete that I have found. If you have any thing you can add or correct I would appreciate having it.
Gordon L. Drollinger
Message 2:
Mike,
Not having done the original research on the Lottholz fuess lines, I can only repeat the old saw, "look at original sources". Attached is what I have on the Lotholz Fuess lines given to me by a couple people. I have looked at the original books in Ellmendingen while I was stationed in Germany. The old German script is very hard to read if you are not used to it. The capitol D looks like an I. Some of the stuff would not have come out on a microfilm. For instance I found one place that had different colored ink which I would have overlooked. Yes swineherd is an occupation, like a shepard. The Freisburg records and the Swede church are a bit of a puzzle. I wonder if there was an argument or something that caused Gabriel to switch churches. There is a gap in baptisms where a couple children could fit. Some of the stuff is perplexing. The confirmation of several of Gabrial's children is listed in most records as deaths! If you can get someone to do the German research it is worth it. Most villages have an antiquarian who does it for the pleasure. Writing to the Pastor is usually a start. Sorry I don't have any more "pithy notations" from other histories.
