OBITUARY:
Subject: Obituary for Vernicetine (Bastin) Davenport, 84, of Lincoln, IL
Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2000 07:04:51 -0500
It is with deep regret that I report the passing of a fairly close cousin to
almost all our our list. I just learned of the death last spring of a
double-cousin to many on our list. (Both of her parents shared common
BASTIN ancestry, and were second cousins to each other.) Vernicetine Bastin
Davenport's BASTIN ancestry has been traced as follows:
Ernest Lewis Davenport == Vernicetine Bastin
William Thomas 'Will Tom' Bastin == Henrietta Nunn
James Pinkney Nunn == Louvicy Chaney
William H. Nunn == Hannah Bastin
Thomas Bastin, Jr. == Mary W. 'Nancy' Atwell
Thomas Bastin == Hannah Brockman
In the closest connection, through my third great grandparents, Thomas
'Tommie' Bastin, III and Louanna 'Annie' (Shofner) Bastin, she was a second
cousin, twice removed, to me. As mentioned in her obituary, one son, who
was Larry Ernest Davenport, preceded her in death, and passed away on 12 Dec
1995 at 9:20 AM.
(Incidentally, I had had her birthday listed in my database as January 20th,
1915. I am not sure if the birthdate listed in the obituary is correct, or
merely reported incorrectly by relatives or even a newspaper reporter. Can
anyone confirm either of the two dates, January 20th, 1915 or January 22,
1915? I tend to think her birthdate was actually January 20th, 1915. Also,
I had that Ernest Davenport had died on 10 Aug 1988, not in 1969 as listed
in this obituary. Can anyone confirm this date, too? -- Gary Bastin)
The following obituary appeared on April 20, 1999 in The State
