John Herbert McGowan

John Herbert McGowan, son of Henry Lawrence and Gildeppie Dell (Stotesbury) McGowan, married Mrs. Frances Shiloh "Fannie" (Payne) Carawan (1893-1930) on November 23, 1921. Fannie was the widow of Charles Eugene Carawan (1864-1919) and the daughter of Exum Elliot Payne, Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Marshall. John Herbert and Fannie are both buried in Soule Cemetery in the Swan Quarter Township of Hyde County.

Viola Chloe (McGowan) Cahoon
October 15, 1886 - Aug. 5, 1975

Viola Chloe McGowan, daughter of Henry Lawrence and Gildeppie Dell (Stotesbury) McGowan, married Henry Wilson Cahoon, Sr. (1885-1924) on May 7, 1913. Henry Wilson Cahoon, Sr. had previously been married to Ella Jarvis (1888-1912), daughter of Lauren Luther Jarvis and Mary Jane Jarvis. Viola McGowan and Henry Wilson Cahoon, Sr. are both buried in Soule Cemetery along with two of their children, Charlie Mack Cahoon (1914-1943) and Henry Wilson Cahoon, Jr. (1922-1948).
