Netta Adella Carawan was born on July 2, 1874, a daughter of William Alpheus Carawan (1837-1913) and Eleanor Sawyer (1836-1900). Della was the grandaughter of Mannan Carawan (1792-1851) and Rebecca McGowan (1803-1851). About 1895, Della married to Edgar Wallace Spain. He was born on Oct. 19, 1868. Della died on Dec. 18, 1943 and Edgar died Dec. 10, 1944 in Hobucken, Pamlico Co., NC. Their son, pictured above with his mother, was Frederick Augustus Spain, born Nov. 12, 1899 and died on Jan. 2, 1928.
