Bits

It's always the

little things

that prompt the

tears:

His wallet, with

two bingo tokens

still tucked

inside;

The beat-up pair

of boots he

liked to wear;

A plaid flannel

shirt, worn with

the pocket flap

askew;

His glasses,

gold wire-rimmed

bifocals, still

needing cleaning;

The notes of

instructions

to me on how

to disperse

his household of

stuff, and what

to charge for

the pieces.

It is my task

now to settle

his estate. Oh,

not the big

things necessarily -

those are for the

executors, Doug

and Bob. But

the little, mundane

reminders that

he lived and breathed

and loved

and died.

It's those small

bits of his life

that bring my

tears, again.
