A Long Wait Ended
So, He went and did it, after
all.
Even though it was expected,
even hoped for, as an answer to prayer-
on some level there is still
surprise
that he would actually die,
leaving us like that.
Shock that this release,
long expected, not unwelcome,
actually arrived.
Now, we are left with
the job of figuring out how
to live without him. No
easy task -
for the void he leaves
is deep, running through our souls,
echoing in our smiles,
shining in our tears.
So hard to believe we will
now only see him in
cold photographs, the faces
of our family, our sorrowing hearts.
A release so expected,
but so puzzling in its finality.
He may have died,
but in our love, he is immortal.
Written for the family of Butch Devine and for all those
suffering losses long expected.
