Waiting Rooms
Hospital waiting rooms
are all too familiar
to me this year.
I've spent hours in
them,
waiting for word,
waiting for Dad,
waiting for Mom.
Wondering if I'm
waiting
for death.
They're all different
and yet the same,
Comfortably uncomfortable,
antiseptically homey.
Sometimes I'm ready
with a book or craft,
othertimes I just
wait
Empty, yet hopeful,
waiting to hear of
life
continuing. Maybe
this
year I'll wait to
hear
of new life
arriving.
