ONE YEAR LATER
When did you decide to die, Dad?
What makes a body
and a spirit
say AMEN, so be it?
We, still among the living,
in our efforts to glimpse
beyond our limitations,
wonder, and imagine
that Death takes us,
perhaps against our will,
perhaps not.
Perhaps, instead, Death is
only waiting to be joined;
as a loved one waits
at the railroad station,
for the arrival of
the son,daughter,
mother,father,
family
he longs for.
Perhaps Death meets us with
open arms,
a loving embrace.
