The name Neagle is the Anglicized "English" version of the Clan Nagle (O'Neilan) from County Cork Ireland. The Nagles were a principal medieval Hiberno-Norman Family, in the period after the Anglo-Norman invasion, and before the upheavals of the seventeenth century.
The modern day Nagles and Neagles are descendants of the original Gaeil (Gaelic Peoples) Tribe of Ireland who were known as "Connachta," or 'people of Conn,' who in Irish myth was the brother of Eogan. By far the most important of the Gaelic Connachta tribes were the 'Ui Neill,' which was later pronounced and spelled as O'Neill. The O'Neill tribe can claim direct descent from Nially Noigiallach, (Noigiall in Gaelic, Nagle in English), who appears to have lived in the early fifth century, and is given in the genealogical tracts as a son of Eochu Mugmedor ('lord of slaves), who was several generations descended from Conn.
The O'Neill tribe was so large that separate dynasties emerged that were later known as the northern and southern O'Neills. The southern O'Neills were based at Tarain County Meath. The O'Neill claimed the high kingship of all Ireland, and their kingship was unchallenged until the tenth century. Laoighire, the son of Nially Noigiallach was the first Ui Neill ruler of Tara, who reputedly received the Christian missionary of "St." Patrick, in the year 432.
Within this tribe, many smaller divisions existed (about 150), which were known as "Tuatha." The names of these tuatha are reflected today in the names of baronies which make up the modern counties. Each of these tuatha had its own ruler or petty king, who owed allegiance to a more powerful leader, an over-king of three or more tuatha, who in turn was a subordinate to the king of the province, generally of the Eoghanact or the Ui Neill.
The tribal culture of the Gaeil, like that of all Celts, was highly developed and complex, and dominated life throughout the country for fifteen centuries, until its final collapse in the seventeenth century. In essence, it consisted of a highly codified legal system which regulated relationships within and between classes, families, larger kin-groups, and tuatha. Three classes existed: the professionals (aos dana), made up of poets, historians, jurists, musicians and druids; the free (saor aicme), warriors, owning land and cattle; and the unfree (daor aicme), slaves, many of whom were prisoners or descendants of prisoners taken in war.

Hello Cousin Susan and Michael!spouse: Stanfield, Frances (1793 - 1834)Katie Pegelow forwarded the photos of the Douglas monuments to me, and my daughter put it in GIF for me today, so I got to see it, and am just thrilled! Thank you very much for your effort to get it to Katie.
I am a grandchild of Benjamin Harrison Williams and his wife, Bessie Rogers Williams.
Benjamin was born June 22, 1889, and died October 17, 1947, Detroit, Wayne Co., MI. Bessie Alice Rogers was born Dec. 28, 1894, and died Wayland, Wayne Co., MI, Mar. 27, 1971. Both of them are buried at Corinth Cemetery, Whitley Co., not far out 5th St. Road, and just across Falls Highway from where Uncle Jim lived.
I recently learned the most outstanding news about Jacob Nicholson, father of Speed Nicholson, father of Martha. First of all, he was married to Frances "Franky" Stanfield, Jan. 30, 1817, Knox Co., KY. His parents are said to be Thomas Nicholson and Nancy, however, I have no proof of that, nor dates for them.
Speed Nicholson was born April 16, 1824, and died in 1846. Martha was his only child. Our grandmother, Malinda, had another child, China ca 1849. China married Calvin P. Williams, a brother of Add H. Williams.
Jacob was born 1792, NC, and died November 9, 1856, Whitley Co. Frances was born 1793, Anson Co., NC, and died Feb. 1, 1834, Whitley Co., KY.
Frances' parents were Sampson Stanfield and Easter Thomas. Sampson was born Jan. 19, 1768, Cane Creek, Anson Co., NC, and died Jan. 11, 1837, Whitley Co., KY. Easter was b. 1765, Anson Co., and died 1796, probably Anson Co., NC. Sampson then married Nancy Thomas, and it is unknown whether Nancy and Easter were related, but in all probability they were.
I have obtained Add H. Williams' CW pension file, and if you haven't seen it, I'll be glad to send you the information. It's very exciting to meet a real, live cousin! If you have questions about any of the above, I'll try to help. I have only one rule: I never give out information of living people.
I also believe our grandparents Rogers are John m. Jennie Eaton. I have a deed copy of when John Green Rogers (Bessie's father) sold the farm, and he indicated that he had been in continuous possession of it, and that it was surveyed for John Rogers in 1844. John Green Rogers' parents were J. William, b. 1828, and Cynthia Whitaker Rogers. So, if I remember correctly, your grandmother, Polly would have been J. William's sister. Do I have that right?
I'm just looking at what I have, and Polly Rogers, d/o James Rogers m. James Sexton, according to my notes. When James Rogers made his will, he willed to his granddaughter, Judith Alsip, the wife of Richardson H. Alsip. She may have been d/o John and Jennie Eaton Rogers. I couldn't figure that one out. I forget how you have Polly and James Sexton related, but I can send you the information from James will where he wills to his daughter, Polly "Saxson" is how I think it was written. James was a RW soldier. He enlisted at Anson, NC. So, you can see our Faulkners, Stanfields, Thomases, and Rogers likely all knew each other from there!
This is getting good, isn't it!
Can't wait to hear from you! Where is Chelsea, MI? Is it anywhere near Detroit? I must look you up in my atlas. I live in Hollywood, FL. My mother still lives at Corbin, and I'm sure would welcome a visit when you are back home. Have you been to any of the family reunions? My daughter Bev has gone a few times, but I've never been able to get there for it.
Your cousin, Shirley
