Of the above named children of David Stout and Elizabeth Larison, Jonathan, the eldest, married Rachel, daughter of Thomas Burroughs, Junior, and granddaughter of Thomas, Senior, who bought the first tract of land for settlement in the southwestern part of Hopewell Township as now constituted since the organization of Ewing. Thomas Burroughs purchased his tract November 17, 1699. It was located on the path leading from the settlements at Maidenhead to those on the Neshaminy in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which at that time was only an Indian path.
