The Children John (1856-1937) George (1858-1861) Mary (1860-1861) Mary Jane (1863-1945) |
Edward married Annie Brophy on 18 May 1855 by Rev. Snider of Goderich. The witnesses were Michael Fox and Mary Brophy. Annie was born in 1831, likely in Kilcooly Parish County Tipperary Ireland. Their first child John was born on the 15 August 1856. John later married Mary Gillis (1860-1924) and moved to Gagetown, Michigan. He lived there for many years but returned to Culross late in life. John died in 1937. John and Mary had no children. The next two children, George and Mary, died as infants and were buried in the Brophy plot in St Augustine. They are listed on the Brophy monument as having died on 10 April 1858 and 15 Oct 1858 but this is incorrect since they were both enumerated in the March 1861 Canada Census. According to records for St Peter's Goderich, George was born on 27 June 1858. According to the Brophy monument he died at age 2 years and 10 months which would be April 1861. Mary died at 10 months of age so she must have been born around New Year's 1861. The fourth child was Mary Jane, born in 1863. Jane never married. She lived with her brother George at first but after Willie's wife Margaret died in 1916, she moved across the road to care for Willie and Margarets children. Jane died in 1945. Edward, born in 1864, married Jane Hayes (1866-1928) and moved to Gagetown, Michigan about 1893. They had five children. Edward died in 1936. Catherine (1867-1936) married William McGrogan (1855-1917). They kept a store in Belmore, Ontario for many years. They had 5 children. Hugh (1868-1948) married Ann Robinson (1878-1959). They had 4 children and farmed in Wawanosh Township. George was born in 1870. He married Mary (Minnie) Moir in 1905. They raised a family of 5 girls and two boys on Lot 35, Concession 2 of Culross Township, the original Owen King farm. Their youngest son Joseph still lives there in 1999. George died in 1933. Willie was born in 1873. He bought Lot 33 Concession 3 from his first cousin Willie George (son of Michael) in 1907. Shortly thereafter he married Margaret McGlynn, daughter of John McGlynn and Rose Ann Malloy. They had 3 sons and a daughter but Margaret died tragically on Christmas Day, 1916 leaving Willie with 4 young children. His older sister Mary Jane helped raise the children. Willie died in 1952. |
