The Children Owen (1861-1909) Michael (1866-1893) Isabella (1868-) |
Michael married Jane Cartwright in January 1855 at St Patrick"s Wildfield in Peel County. Their first daughter Mary Anne was baptised in Goderich in September. It seems likely then that they moved from Peel to Huron or Bruce County in the spring or summer of 1855.
Michael and Jane raised a family of 8 children on Lot 33 Con 3 of Culross Township. After Christmas 1878, Michael and his oldest son John Edward went to Manitoba via Minneapolis and bought 600 acres of land near the Roseau River. They built a log cabin over that winter which, although somewhat decrepit, still stands today. Michael returned to Culross the following year but John Edward stayed until the fall of 1881. He then returned to Culross where he married Margaret Kelly in February 1882. Immediately they returned to Manitoba where they spent the rest of their days. John Edward"s grandson Jack still lives on the original family farm in 1999. By 188? James Matthew, Owen, Elizabeth (who married Pat Kelly, brother of Margaret Kelly) and Michael had all moved to Manitoba. Michael died in 1893 and the other 3 children all moved to Alberta shortly after the turn of the century leaving only John Edward in Manitoba. Willie George sold the Michael King farm to his first cousin Willie (son of Edward) and also moved to Okotoks Alberta in 1906. Isabella married Angus McKinnon, son of Donald McKinnon and Annie McPhee. At present we do not know what became of them. |
