43. Calvin Thornton RAGLAND ⁽³⁾ was born on 15 Dec 1855 in Bibb Co., Alabama. He died on 1 Nov 1948 in Bibb Co., Alabama. He was buried about 1 Nov 1948 in Old Union Church Cemetery, Bibb Co., Alabama. My list of Calvin Thornton Ragland's children, and the order in which I have them listed, came from a personal visit with Pearle Dora Ragland Doss a few years before her death. The visit was at her house in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. --Rebecca Lambert

"Calvin's mother passed away when he was a small child. In the 1860 census, age 5, he was living with his grandmother Elizabeth (Thornton) Ragland. His father, Manuel, remarried in 1860. Manuel moved to Warrior, Jefferson, Alabama about 1875. Calvin and his sister Mary did not move. Calvin was engaged to Mary Jane Mayfield already. Both married in Bibb County where Calvin lived all his life.
"Calvin was a Bibb County commissioner when the present courthouse was built in 1902 at Centreville. He lived to be 93 years old and is said to have made every Sacred Harp singing he could attend."

He was married to Mary Jane MAYFIELD in 1877 in Bibb Co., Alabama. Mary Jane MAYFIELD was born on 11 Nov 1860 in Bibb Co., Alabama. She died on 18 Dec 1921 in Bibb Co., Alabama. She was buried about 18 Dec 1921 in Old Union Cemetery, Bibb Co., Alabama. Calvin Thornton RAGLAND and Mary Jane MAYFIELD had the following children:
