AURORA -- Robert P. Koberstein, 72, of Aurora Monday, April 16, 2001, at Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. The Rev. John Keefe will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.
Mr. Koberstein was born March 13, 1929, to Otto A. and Pearl A. (Joyce) Koberstein in a private home in Lewellen. He attended country school through the second grade. After completing grammar school at Scarritt School in Kansas City, Mo., he graduated from Manual High School.
His first part-time employment was in the manufacture of women's hats in a "sweat shop," where steam was used to shape the felt into hats. In 1948, he joined the Kansas City Fire Department at the age of 19. He joined the Army in 1951. He completed training at Counter Intelligence Corps in Ft. Halibird, Md. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War and was discharged in 1953, at San Francisco. In 1952, he raised turkeys with his dad on the South Tableland near Lewellen in the summer.
He married Delores Bartholomew on Dec. 31, 1954, at Kansas City, Mo. He graduated from Finlay Engineering College in Kansas City in 1956 with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering degree.
He was involved with the space program at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida when the Russians launched their Sputnik satellite and was also at Patrick Air Force Base when the first U.S. satellite blew up on the pad.
After receiving his bachelor of science in electrical engineering in 1960, he went to work as a field manager for the Bendix Corp. on the East Coast. He transferred to the Bendix Launch Division as a senior engineer and quality control manager. He was there from the start of the Apollo Moon Program in 1965 until its successful completion in 1973.
He moved to Aurora and acquired an Interstate Battery franchise.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Paula (Mrs. LaMoyne) Danhauer of Aurora; one grandson; and one sister, Mary (Mrs. Harold) Gibson of Aurora. He was preceded in death by one brother, James.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Susan Ann LePard, 52, of Arlington, Texas, died at her home following a brief illness on Monday, May 8, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. The Revs. John Keefe and Victor Derwinski will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Services for Otis L. Butler, 85, a retired insurance executive, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Mr. Butler, of Lombard, died Wednesday in Du Page County Convalescent Center in Wheaton. He was a 27-year employee of United States Fidelity & Guaranty Insurance Companies of Chicago, having served as manager of the fire and marine department and later as an agent. A World War I Army veteran, he was past commander and a life member of American Legion Post 391 of Lombard. Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three daughters, Bette Koberstine, Ruthe Calloway and Frances Harders; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchilren; and a sister.

The Chicago Chamber Orchestra will celebrate the 300th anniversary of Handel's birth with a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Chicago Public Library Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St.
The orchestra, under the direction of Dieter Kober, will play selections from the opera "Xerxes" and the Concerto Grosso in A Minor, Op. 6, No. 4. Bach's Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor and Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik will also be performed.
Seating will begin at 2 p.m.

BELLEVUE - Anne Elizabeth Gibson, 47, of 4928 W. Plank Road died at 8 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, at her residence.
Born Aug. 29, 1957, in Manhattan, N.Y., to Patrick J. and Shirley Marie Koberstein Deighan, she married Charles R. Gibson on Sept. 9, 2002. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Daniel (and Amanda) Ciriello of Trinity, N.C.; two grandchildren; one brother, Jackie Deighan of Houston; and one sister, Cathleen Deighan of Lawton, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
She was a member of Bellevue Bible Church.
A memorial Mass will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bartonville. The Rev. David Heinz will officiate. There will be no visitation. Cremation will be accorded. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co., Peoria.
Memorials may be made to the Anne Gibson Memorial Fund established at Associated Bank or the Children's Hospital of Illinois at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
