Subject: Re: The Voge Family Research Homepage

Yes, this is the same person.

Her name was Amelia Augustine Voge.  Despite what any death certificate may say,  Vogie is incorrect!  I don't know about the Norway bit, but it seems unlikely.  It is possible, but unlikely.  Her mother was born in Brandenburg province of Germany.  I have some Krosky family photos here which are very old.  They have writing on the back of them  in very clear german.  Amelia's  younger sister Marie was born in Berlin in 1875.  Her natural father was named Krosky.  I don't know his first name.  He died of TB in the 1870s.  I don't know Augusta's true maiden name.  She was Augusta Krosky when she married August Voge in 1880 in Germany.  They came to America in March of 1884 on board the "Fulda" sailing from Bremen to New York.  August adopted both of Augusta's daughters as his own.

71. William A KOBERSTEIN

I had a conversation with the Pasteur David Laechel of the Faith United Methodist Church (this was the unification of the Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Faith United Methodist Church, this occurred on a overall basis in 1968 and for the churches in Sleepy Eye in 1972).  I called him based on the photo sent to me by my cousin Don and Julie Koberstein of the  Evangelical United Brethren Church with a note on the back that said, "Dear Uncle and Aunt this is a Picture of our church wair booth Mother and father
was barried fom Uncil Alford was in this church when father Passed away and the Funial was held in here."(sic)

He searched his records from the older Evangelical United Brethren Church which was is an oversized book.  He found several references to Kobberstein, it was spelled with two b's, I don't know why but it is probably my Great Uncle Will.

Will Kobberstein born 19 Sep 1867 in Ripley, Wisconsin and died 27 Mar 1959 in Sleepy Eye.  He was 91 years 6 months, and 8 days of age. He was buried 30 Mar 1959 in the Homes Cemetary in Sleepy Eye.  The funeral was conducted by Minister H.S. Frank (who has since passed away also), which is the same name on the photograph (announcement board in front of the church).  He joined the church April 1888.  Will would have been 21 at that time. The Pasteur indicated he must have been one of the first members of this church.  His wife Elsie was born in Ortonville, Minnesota and died 11 Nov 1968 in Sleepy Eye
with the funeral in this church.  She joined the church 13 Dec 1959 which was shortly after her husband died.  The funeral program indicated there was a surviving daughter Mrs. Herald Moll.  They were inidcated as living in a Rural Route (must have lived on a farm).  There was also listed in the records a Hazel Kobberstein (maybe a previous wife) who lived on Rural Route 2.

The church in my photograph was sold when the two other churches combined.  It is now a baptist church.  The new church is at 108 Water St. S.E., Sleepy Eye, MN 96085.

He will send copies of the records when back from his vacation in early June 1997.

"Brothers Never Met During a Lifetime
A renunion of two brothers who had not seen each other during an entire lifetime came about yhesterday - two days after the older brother had died.
Elford L. Koberstein, 73, Porland, Oregon, arrived in sleepy Eye on the 11 o'clock bus yesterday morning not knowing that his brother, William, 91, Prairieville township, whom he had never seen had passed away Saturday morning.
Told that his brother had died, Elford got to the Schwartz funeral home in time to see the elder Koberstein in death and to attend funeral services that afternoon.
William was born in Wisconsin 91 years ago.  He left home before the family moved to Elkton Brookings county, South Dakota, where Elford was born December 12, 1885.  At the age of five Elford moved to Portland, Oregon, with his family.  He still lives there and is employed as a deputy sheriff.
Last week the Kobersteins wroge Elford, telling him his brother was failing.  He decided to make the trip to Sleepy Eye, traveling by train as far as the Twin Cities, then boarding the bus for this city Monday forenoon.  When he made inquery as to the location of the Koberstein farm he learned his brother had died.
All through the years the brothers had exchanged letters and greeting cards, but somehow had never managed a get-together."

The key connection that makes this 1900 cencus Fred to be my relative is that the birth date (Jun 1878) given in the cencus is the same as that given in the Knights of Pythias registration.

Marriage date approximated as 1900 because the were married 0 years in the 1900 cencus.  Marriage place is probably Oregon using the same logic.
