The Humes Family of County Tyrone, Ireland, Chester and Beaver Counties, Pennsylvania  
Laura Ethel (Humes) Schaney; Frank Humes; Patrick Humes (1774-1857) Patrick Humes was born 1774 in County Tyrone, Ireland, he emigrated to Chester county, Pennsylvania, in 1804, and married 1805, in Chester Co. PA, Susan Martin who was born 1790 in Ireland, and died in 1862. In 1823 the family removed to a tract of land in Western Pennsylvania, one of seven tracts for which he had traded a horse some years before, containing in all about 1200 acres. Patrick died 8 Jul 1857, Beaver Co. PA, and is buried in Mt. Pleasant Cem., Beaver Co. PA. This is a very old cemetery and on a personal visit I could not find the stone. In the list "Passenger Arrivals at the port of Philadelphia
1800-1819" is found: The Hannah sailed 12 Dec 1809 from Liverpool and Londonderry. I have not verified that these people are the same Susan Martin and Patrick Humes, if so, they may have met on the ship Hannah, as on the ship they are not listed as a family unit. The emigration of these people in 1809, does not match the story in the History of Butler County which says "In 1805 he (Patrick Humes) married Miss Susan Martin, of Chester county, and in 1823 the family removed to a tract of land in Western Pennsylvania." Patrick Humes will was probated, July 18, 1857. Children of Patrick and Susan: Martin Humes (1830-1881) Martin Humes, son of Patrick and Susan (Martin) Humes, was born 1830 in New Sewickley Twp., Beaver Co. PA. Martin died Jan 10, 1881, New Sewickley Twp., Beaver Co. PA. He married first Mary Ellen Burns, daughter of Samuel Burns Sr. and Eleanor "Ellen" Tucker, born 1832 in Pennsylvania, she died sometime before 1866, there were four children of this marriage. He married second Rhoda A. Burns, daughter of Samuel Burns Sr. and Eleanor "Ellen" Tucker, and sister of his first wife, born Aug 1834, New Sewickley Twp., Beaver Co. PA, she died Mar 7, 1924, and is buried in Grove Cem. New Brighton, Beaver Co. PA. Children of Martin and Mary Ellen are: Children of Martin and Rhoda are: Laura Ethel Humes (1874-1927) daughter of Martin and Rhoda (Burns) Humes, married October 20, 1892 in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, Phillip Martin Schaney (1867-1917), son of John "Johannes" and Caroline (Brandenberger) Schaney.
